  The Goorihouse Treatment Program
The Goori House Treatment Program has been extended to include the Halfway House programme and the Outreach Programme.

Goori House Treatment Programme
• 2 week window
• A three month primary treatment, residential period, contracted between the client and the management of Goori House.
• A substance abuse education program and counselling service – the Galangoor Therapy Program. This program was
initially developed and utilised with Aboriginal men in correctional institutions. Galangoor Programme has been further
developed for Goori House clients during all stages of the treatment programme including the primary treatment period. In
addition to specific substance abuse related content, it includes:
• an education and counselling service addressing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural issues such as Historical
Critique of the past 200 years of Settlement, Stolen Generation, Deaths in Custody, Family Dynamics, Time Lines.
• Cultural Camps which instil a sense of belonging for clients by experiencing tribal customs, as well as being guided in
dealing with many conflicting issues. These camps are planned for the Quandamooka, Batjalla, Gubbi Gubbi Kabi Kabi,
Ngui Ungara and Bundjulung and other South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales areas)
• A Working Skills education program in partnership with Yeronga TAFE providing all clients with an employment related
qualification on completion of the Goori House program.
• A close referral and support network available to all clients, including medical centres, Indigenous health workers,
alcohol and drug services, and relevant community organisations and self-help support groups (such as Alcoholics
Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Gamblers Anonymous).(Attachment 6 Referral and Support Network)
• Upon completion of the Goori House programme – each client can exit Goori House or decide to progress into the
Halfway House programme:
- Action Plan Development which includes
- Employment and training goals
- Financial issues and Goals including a Budget
- Fortnightly timetable
- 12 Step Meetings
- Volunteer work
- Medical & other Health issues
- Leisure goals
- Legal issues
- Family plans

• 6 months, halfway house supported accommodation which is contracted between the client and the management of
Goori House
• Individualised, case managed programme which includes relapse prevention, goal setting and career mapping,
employment and work skills including interview techniques and referral to workplace environments and opportunities for
specialised volunteer training and mentoring support into the clients chosen workplace or training environment.

Upon completion of the Halfway House programme clients enter the Outreach programme:
• an action plan development period
• Individualised case management programme aiming at consolidation of the Goori House programme and the Halfway
House programme. This includes follow up of training or educational programmes and/or referral to appropriate
workplace environments with a strong preference for a link to any training that has been undertaken.
