First ContactEither by telephone or by letter. A Case Manager will contact the potential client.
The Case Manager introduces themselves to the potential Client and informs them that Goori House requires some basic information before the initial interview. This process will take 15 – 20 minutes. It is a brief interview to determine if the person meets the criteria for a formal Assessment and that the Client needs to be as honest as possible so we can make the best decision for their treatment.
The client is advised that they need to have undergone detoxification before entering a treatment centre.
The Case Manager will ask the client when was the last time they used. (If the Case Manager decides the Client is unable to complete the interview due to effect of drugs or alcohol, the Client is asked to call back later when not affected). This information is strictly confidential.
After the interview, the Case Manager explains to the potential client that they need to organise to have their full criminal history faxed through to Goori House so the House Manager can complete the assessment. If client has been in jail, staff will request any psychiatric reports to be forwarded as well.
The Case Manager explains the Galangoor Program to the potential client.
The First Contact interview times are Monday to Friday between 1pm and 5pm.
Two Week WindowAt the next Goori House Case Management meeting a decision on clients suitability for the program will be made. Case management meetings are held every Tuesday.
If clients are suitable, staff, book them into a detoxification program, they will notify the client of the detox centre to attend and the time they are to report to the centre. Where required, a Case Manager will transport the client from the detox centre straight to Goori House.
If the client is not suitable for the Goori House Program, the case management team will decide on referring the client to a more suitable Program.
It takes up to 2 weeks to complete detoxification program.
